[Confession] Along With the Gods

Wow. I'm finally back.

Here is the synopsis of the movie:

After dying unexpectedly, firefighter Ja-hong is taken to the afterlife by three guardians, where only after passing seven trials and proving he lived a noble life will he be able to reincarnate. Based on the wildly popular webcomic, ALONG WITH THE GODS: THE TWO WORLDS is a star-studded, action-packed fantasy epic about life, death, rebirth, and the unseen forces that guide us through all.

Along With the Gods is the hottest Korean blockbuster film garnering millions of audiences with record-breaking box office rates.

Ughh God knows how long I have been waiting for this! Ever since it hit the Korean theaters, I've always wanted to see how awesome this will look like. From the moment I saw it, the trailer for Along with the Gods pulled me in. The sweeping special effects, the dramatic story line, the epic journey through the underworld — how could I not be intrigued? Plus, CHA TAE HYUN is there. And everything he does just hits me right on the spot.

The first I'd like to point out is the intense use of CGI - and what I mean by intense is exceptional. I mean just AMAZING. This was CGI done right. It was intricate, fantastical, and all around awesome. I love when CGI doesn’t detract from the story but instead adds an additional element that enhances a viewers enjoyment. The landscapes throughout the afterlife were so beautifully wrought. The attention to detail and the magnificent scenarios resonated with emotion and really contributed well to the overall flow of the story.

Aside from the obvious brilliant performance of Cha Tae Hyun, there was a plethora of amazing actors added as various gods and side characters. DO is one, who gives me goosebumps whenever on screen, and the tiny Duk Cheon, too! The main reason to watch this movie surprisingly stems from its ability to make audiences laugh and cry, with the moods oscillating back and forth in mere seconds. From laugh-out-loud humor to heart-wrenching grief, the film touches upon the sensitive values that strongly evoke Korea's traditional values of brotherly love and filial piety.

An amusing take on life and death, while its development invites viewers to contemplate the nature of judgment, human virtues and what it means to lead a “good” life - that is the triumph of the film.

Can't wait for the Part 2!
