[Confession] I am Your Destiny

Before anything else, I would like to define my drama reviewing:

First, I won't be posting episode recaps for dramas because i don't trust my character - I tend to get lazy when I have routines to accomplish and

Second, sometimes when I decide to watch a drama, I depend my continuance on the first episode. So if ever I am interested in a drama, I will watch the first episode and I will review it just to see how it goes. If I liked it, I'll have a continuation review after I finished the whole thing.

Kke, let's go! :D

Now I'm back again! After that crazyy First Episode Marathon, I've been down because I was waiting for those drama to finish and settled for something endless instead (ehemDetectiveConanehem) but nowww, after waiting for this J-drama to finish - it airs once a week! - it finally ended and I couldn't be happier reviewing Boku Unmei no Hito desu (I am your Destiny)!

Here is the synopsis of the drama:

Masaki Makoto and Kogetsu Haruko are both 29 years old and single. Since they were children, they have passed each other at various places like on the beach and shrines. Yet, the two are not aware of each other at all. One day, a man appears in front of Makoto and introduces himself as God. He tells Makoto about his destined soulmate and that she works next door. When he faces Haruko, he tells her "I'm your destiny."

Coincidences are another drama trope that i have love/hate relationship with, especially in romance/ romcom settings. But I am Your Destiny proved that it's actually more than meets the eye and is one of those dramas whose execution is more interesting than the synopsis. I was a bit skeptical about the premise at first, but I end up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. When you thought this J-drama was full of cliche scenes but it wasn't. The plot was cohesive and well-thought - there were times when the male lead thought he's doing something for a certain goal, but it doesn't really follow through that goal but instead accomplishes something better (this explanation is vague unless you watch) hahaha

And yesss, the drama that reunited our beloved Seishun Amigos: Kamenashi Kazuya and Yamashita Tomohisa. I just can't get enough of these two when they were in Nobuta and couldn't get enough more when I watched them here! They have this bromance chemistry that didn't need to be too intimate to like (did I say intimate?). It also has similarities to Proposal Daisakusen (one of my fave J-dramas): a divine character and YamaPi. The latter has stepped up from playing human receiving divine help to the one giving it. His character definitely made me miss that drama!

That said, i love YamaPi’s performance here. I think his deadpan expressions suit this type of comedic role perfectly — I genuinely cracked up at his dry humor. Not to mention his hilariously creative entrances! His antics are my favorite part of the drama, and so is every KamePi’s bickering (I’d love to see BTS footage for), that i wish their scenes were longer.

I also specifically like Haruko. Because she's the only one who makes the experience realistic and what made the drama be still on the ground. The fantasies this drama has contrasted the real feelings of a girl so unsure in love after multiple mistakes in the past. Her story makes it real and relatable: from her hesitations to Makoto to her, finally moving on to the next chapter. Her character progress was truly remarkable here.

Though I'm gonna say that the ending was lacking because Ichiro (Yamapi) was not needed anymore. But still, I’m going to end with a positive note. Generally speaking, the idea of fate was well-portrayed in I am Your Destiny. There are many coincidences that play out and the two leads share many encounters. This J-drama made me a hopeless romantic for my destiny man once again.
