[Confession] A Liar and his Lover Episode 1

Before anything else, I would like to define my drama reviewing:

First, I won't be posting episode recaps for dramas because i don't trust my character - I tend to get lazy when I have routines to accomplish and

Second, sometimes when I decide to watch a drama, I depend my continuance on the first episode. So if ever I am interested in a drama, I will watch the first episode and I will review it just to see how it goes. If I liked it, I'll have a continuation review after I finished the whole thing.

Kke, let's go! :D

Yesss, I started another Kdrama after telling my friends I'll be ditching Kdrama for awhile huehue. Well, I happen to download the First Episode to see how it looks like and dang, when I asked for cute and fresh, cute and fresh I surely got. tvN’s new musical rom-com The Liar and His Lover sang to my heart!

Here is the synopsis of the drama:

Kang Han-Kyeol (Lee Hyun-Woo) is a great composer and gets inspired by the voice of others. He hides his identity from other people. Kang Han-Kyeol meets Yoon So-Rim (Joy). She is a female high school student with a great voice and she falls in love with him.

Is it too soon to say I love this? Because I love this. It might be because this is an adaptation of a shojo manga (and a movie to go along), but I love the very familiar and classic rom-com vibes it’s giving off. That feeling gives me hope that this drama will hit all the romantic sweet spots we’ve come to know and love. I was also pleasantly surprised with its light, breezy charm. I love how much it’s about music; it’s not just a part of these characters’ lives as a job or a hobby, but infused throughout the whole show, like a character on its own. And I’m glad to see Lee Hyun-woo finally playing a character that actually makes use of his acting talents - though I’m trying so very hard to see Lee Hyun-woo as an adult who’s capable of living in his own house, but he still looks like he belongs in high school. Hahaha -- And I'll apologize to Park Bo-gum today because Hyun-woo actually came first in my life and I'll be loving his twin brotha for now since Bogummy's resting <3

Moving on, it's always nice for something to exceed your expectations - importantly, if it's drama. It's still too early to judge but everything's smooth-sailing. I came to this drama bringing a box full of dislikeness to Joy because people think she got the role easily and shows the world how amateur she is in acting. But when I watched her I was like, "What! She's okaay! I've seen worst!" -- except for lip syncing in all her songs, she's off good.

Okay, so this show is the kind that makes me eager to watch episode after episode, rather than feeling I have to try to keep up, and sticks in my mind even when I’m doing other things. It’s not perfect: The dialogue can get unrealistically drippy for my tastes (I cringe when it gets cheesy and push through it), I find the editing occasionally choppy, and the supporting cast is inexperienced. But despite all that, A Liar and His Lover speaks to me with its breezy feel-good spirit; the tone, the mood, and the heart are all very engaging. So bring on the conflict! Bring on the lies! I’m ready for the long haul.
