[Confession] Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim

Before anything else, I would like to define my drama reviewing:

First, I won't be posting episode recaps for dramas because i don't trust my character - I tend to get lazy when I have routines to accomplish and

Second, sometimes when I decide to watch a drama, I depend my continuance on the first episode. So if ever I am interested in a drama, I will watch the first episode and I will review it just to see how it goes. If I liked it, I'll have a continuation review after I finished the whole thing.

Kke, let's go! :D

It's been a wild ride for me watching Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim. I admit this drama has the lamest title ever and I was all set to make jokes about a lovey-dovey Doctor - but I swallowed my bitter pill because there's nothing lovey-dovey about it - just passionate Doctors with tangled trauma built inside fighting to save lives. Aww

My heart is happy whenever I see Teacher Kim smile

Here is the synopsis of the drama:

Dr. Kim was once a famous surgeon who decided to leave his former workplace to be in a small hospital. The oddball but genius doctor teaches the meaning of true doctors to Kang Dong Joo and Yoon Seo Jung, two young doctors who were passionate in their efforts, but only for their own selfish reasons. (cr. wiki)

When I watched Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim, I didn't know what to expect. I just knew that it was a suspenseful drama which topped the ratings on the channel showing it - meaning it's popular to Korean viewers and they're loving it. So even if I'm not entirely devoted to medical dramas (but favor a few) I watched it and shut up because I was hooked by the weird, fascinating characters and the sizzling romance that sparked from Day 1. I was rather shock to see romance fresh from the start and it kinda bothered me a bit but later on I knew why it had to be on Episode 1.

I love Teacher Kim. He's the epitome of a mentor I wanted to learn from (not in medical field though). He's a genius madman, he will scold you and tell you to get lost but he's alternatively like a hero who saves you and you won't know it. He's a kind of person who will ask you and you'll never say no. He has this aura of authority and coolness that you'll automatically respect him. So in this drama, Teacher Kim gets to teach two young Doctors Yoon Seo Jung and Kang Dong Joo, who appears to have traumatic scars from their past. He teaches that being a good Doctor is better than a Doctor who runs after money. It's about the passion of loving your job despite getting paid little - which applies to every profession out there.

The best parts of the drama, of course, were the various patient cases and medical procedural surgeries. Not only they're interesting but most cases are also plot-relevant in terms of the main characters albeit most of the medical jargon mentioned was my first time hearing it. I also love the feeling of belongingness in the hospital. The workers from the doctors down to the nurses and staffs are helping each other like a real family. As for me, I would gladly appreciate getting paid little as long as I have a good working environment and relation with my co-workers who'll treat me like I belong. Seeing them together - be it working hard or having fun - warms my heart.

This medical drama may be weird, intriguing and flawed (but in a very appealing way) but sometimes all you need is to have that weirdness in you. Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim is very consistent in plot pacing and it won't leave you yawning in boredom. It's good that it's weird because dramaland’s got enough medical shows to fill all the days of the year, but very few of them are as entertaining as this one.

P.S. I hated the soundtrack with passion. lol
