[Confession] Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
When I thought dramaworld would use all my patience because I was always waiting for updates (Goblin, Hwarang, Legend of the Blue Sea, etc), Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo picked me from the ground, caressed me and lifted me up like I'm the world's lightest barbell. Now that I've seen it, I felt like a parent sending my kids off to become adults and be like birds that needs to explore the world. I don't want to let go, but I have to. So bittersweet.
Here is the synopsis of the drama:
A coming-of-age story about a group of college athletes who are fighting for their dreams, experiencing and finding love in the process, and growing every step of the way.
Ahh.. the feels I felt while watching this drama was so surreal. I'm not completely sure when I've ever finish a drama so satisfying that it was just perfect from beginning to its end. Well, I'm not saying Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is the best drama ever but it's so warm and hearty because of the abundance of positivity it brings to its viewers. Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk pairing drew me a quick glance at it but the theme of inner beauty, first love, bond of family and friends and the experience of growing up seized my heart. When it decided to set me free, I can't help but feel sad because I got used to it treating me so well.
It's so rare to come across a drama that hits every single moment perfectly, it felt so nostalgic because it reminds me what it was like to be young(er) and scared but also excited for the future. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo never drag stories, slow paces and leave conflicts unsolved. Unlike other dramas where the audiences are left frustrated at easily fixable situations. Everyone had their nicely-wrapped happy endings because they deserved one. It was gratifying to see these characters learn, grow and get what they deserve.
I can't express enough how wonderful Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo was. It was the first time I've seen Lee Sung Kyung act on a goody lead role and I've never been so proud of her. It's always nice to breathe a fresh air and appreciate a new side of her. She and Joo Hyuk have been so perfect in portraying a couple who'll make you believe that love should always be cherished and not taken for granted. Along with all these happy feelings enveloped in a tight bun, I'll always welcome this drama whenever I need a reminder that our life may still not be complete yet, but we're more than perfect already because of the people who loves us. SWAG!
