[Confession] Doctors

Before anything else, I would like to define my drama reviewing:

First, I won't be posting episode recaps for dramas because i don't trust my character - I tend to get lazy when I have routines to accomplish and

Second, sometimes when I decide to watch a drama, I depend my continuance on the first episode. So if ever I am interested in a drama, I will watch the first episode and I will review it just to see how it goes. If I liked it, I'll have a continuation review after I finished the whole thing.

Kke, let's go! :D

So this is the drama I watched after watching Reply 1988 twice. Haha! I was betting before if I should watch Doctors because of two reasons: I'm not quite fond of Oppa-dongsaeng relationships (where the man is older than the girl for like 10 years or so) and I had enough of Park Shin Hye's Cinderella syndrome. Heh, you know what I mean. But whatevs, I watched it anyway.

Park Shin Hye plays Yoo Hye Jung whose life was difficult when she was young. She was a troublemaker, good at fighting and smart but never studies. Her Father has had enough of her and was sent to her grandmother where she found a real family and slowly changes for the better. That's where she met Kim Rae Won's character Hong Ji Hong whose a full-time teacher in high school but he's actually a Doctor. Under various circumstances, Yoo Hye Jung's grandma died, she studies hard and later becomes a Doctor of Neurology.

So this is where it begins. The brewing love story of Hye Jung and Ji Hong started even before they became full-time Doctors but it was cut abruptly only to be carried on when they meet again. I didn't actually finish this because of the romance, I was able to continue because of the action and drama. I specifically liked the patient story arcs it presented and the cameos it featured *ehem*Lee Sang Yeob*ehem* because it doesn't only focus on the main characters' world. They were given supporting stories from strangers to move audiences and of course to open us to different medical jargon shizz of the brain.

It was a fresh breathe of air for me not because it's unique - no, it's actually just the same old plot lines in a hospital - but after I was bawling my eyes so many times on my previous drama, Doctors became a haven of comfort and solemnity. I liked the action inside the hospital, the breakdown on emergency situations and the adrenaline rush during surgeries. Doctors valued the viewpoint of the patients in this drama because the thing that keeps Hye Jung going is her strong search to get justice - all because the Doctor didn't console her properly. (I don't know what to feel about this)

Now let's talk about the downside. I don't understand why Doctors was twenty episodes when sixteen would have sufficed. My observation is that the drama has a weak plot. The slow pacing of Grandma's case and Hye Jung's revenge lacked cohesive plot that sometimes it becomes dragging and boring. A lot of plot could have been shortened and her journey could have been tighter than loose ends. There were also side characters that were either never developed or was left underdeveloped - an example would be Jung Yoon Do and the doctor interns.

While I have many quetches, Doctors was still easy to watch. There isn't much conflict, there are funny parts and the actors were charming. Though I may not remember much about Doctors in the future, its take on medical drama (with work romance) relinquished me from the stress I received from my day job. *groans*
