[Confession] Miracle in Cell no. 7

Helloooo you guys! It’s been quite a while since I’ve updated it’s just great to be back! As a comeback gift, I’d be reviewing the most recent movie I have watched and loved. It’s Miracle in Cell no. 7 film starring Ryu Seung Ryong and Park Shin Hye.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie:

Lee Yong-go is a mentally impaired father with the intellect of a six-year-old, who lives in a run-down house along with his daughter of the same age, Ye-sung. One day, he gets into a physical altercation with the police commissioner, who has just purchased the last Sailor Moon backpack for his daughter, a gift Yong-go was saving up to buy for Ye-sung. Soon after, the police commissioner's daughter dies in a freak accident, in which she slips on ice and suffers a fatal blow to the back of her head while she is taking Yong-go to another store that sells the same backpack. When he tries to resuscitate her, a woman witnesses him and mistakes him to be molesting her. Yong-go is falsely accused of the abduction, murder, and rape of a minor. The police quickly took advantage of his disability and forced him to admit committing the crimes, while ignoring exonerating evidence. Yong-go, who is sentenced to death, is imprisoned and assigned to Cell No. 7, the harshest cell in a maximum security prison.

At first, the other men in the cell, led by gang leader So Yang-ho, do not take kindly to Yong-go after reading in his file that he murdered and molested a child, but when Yong-go saves Yang-ho from being fatally stabbed by a rival gang leader, Yang-ho repays the favor by smuggling Ye-sung into Cell No. 7. Over time, they come to believe in his innocence, and make it their goal to help reverse the verdict at Yong-go's retrial. (Wiki)

When I first heard of the movie, I was skeptic at first. I mean I am not a fan of too much drama but rather on the comedy, romance and horror side. So I did a research and found that the movie landed at 3rd place as the highest grossing film of all time in Korea in 2013 - and that made me curious. After I saw the synopsis and trailer I told myself I MUST find it. But it took me months to find a very high quality and happen to watch it on a weekend.

Miracle in Cell no. 7 is a heartwarming story of an independent young girl who became a lawyer to defend and clear her father’s s name as he was wrongly accused of murder. Many heartaches and disappointment happen that I was bawling my eyes out of pity and would just want to hug them. As an acting enthusiast, I admire Seung Ryong’s acting ability to be a handicapped man who is always happy and wants to take care of his only daughter. He perfectly established his character as a man who will do anything for the people he loves. As for Park Shin Hye (yeah, she was there!), I never doubted her acting because I loved her ever since she started acting. She did a great job acting as the adult Ye Sung and she doubled the tears I formed in my eyes.

The thing I like about Korean films is it strangely gets into your heart even if you're not a lover of the Korean Hallyu. The filmmakers exactly know how to tug our heartstrings and knows exactly what our most soft part is: Family. Family is the center of our childhood and as we reach adulthood. They are there when you need them and the only one you can run to when others turn their backs at you. So having witnessed Miracle in Cell no. 7 is truly a blessing because no matter the differences we have with other people, no matter the sins we committed in the past, some people will always be willing to accept you with a kind heart if only you learn your lesson and change for the better and of course, the warm feeling of being with our loved ones in our darkest times.

All in all, I would like to recommend this movie to everyone who wanted to experience a heartwarming drama filled with comedy and cuddles - but do prepare your tissues nearby because it won't always be a pretty sight. Watch now because it will never be too late to appreciate such a masterpiece -- thus making this movie deserving in its accomplishing popularity! Clap clap!
