[Confession] Manhole Episode 1
Most of my friends prolly know that my ultimate husband is Kim Jae-joong. So you guys might think this is a biased review of the drama but you're so wrong. Because when it comes to Jae-joong, I'll be very sensitive and will be one of the first people to criticize what he does - not because I hate him, but because I love him. You know, concerned wife? Haha!
Here is the synopsis of the drama:
Bong-Pil (Kim Jae-Joong) has been preparing for his civil servant exam for the past 3 years, but he is not enthusiastic about his studies. He becomes disappointed that his lifelong friend Soo-Jin (Uee) will soon get married. He has loved her in vain for the past 28 years. Bong-Pil then falls into a manhole and travels through time. He struggles to prevent Soo-Jin’s imminent wedding.
Now wasn't that all too familiar? If you're a Jdrama fan, you've probably heard of Proposal Daisakusen which was also adapted as a Korean remake of Operation Proposal. And right, they do have the same plot. Girl-marries-another-guy-then-main-guy-goes-back-in-time-to-stop-the-marriage- something like that. The difference was that this drama gets its magic from - you've guessed it - a Manhole. Now what thing makes this drama so different from the rest? None so far.
As I have checked out the Episode 1, I was deeply concerned with the characters on board - especially Bong Pil's circle of friends. For a 28-year-old person, they all act like irresponsible adults - almost childlike. Bong Pil was acting like a child althroughout the episode throwing tantrums for not getting something he wanted. I feel like he only wanted to have to girl so that he can freeload off of her and not in a romantic way. This goes to his friends like Jin Sook (Jung Hye-seong) and Suk Tae (Baro) as well. They all act like they're still teenagers. The only one I thought who was quite mature was Soo Jin (UEE).
Maybe it's just me but the only thing that made me want to continue to Episode 2 was the last 5 minutes of the drama. Maybe I'll eventually like it because maybe it's fun and it's still warming up to me but judging from the first episode, it was a poor welcome. What I expect from this is not a happy ending, but a 180° character development. Please.
PS. I'm excessively concerned over UEE's slim figure. She looks like she's tired all the time and she doesn't look like what she used to. Hope she could gain some weight.
PPS. Still rooting for you, baby JJ! <3
